Inquiry into appointment of John Barilaro as trade commissioner told request to convert role came from his office

An inquiry into the appointment of the former deputy premier of New South Wales as a trade commissioner has been told a request to investigate converting the role to a ministerial appointment came from John Barilaro's office.
