Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation after an 18-year-man died following an attack at an internet cafe in the city centre on Saturday. A 34-year-old woman from Fazakerley was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Labour councillors who were suspended after they broke the whip to vote against the council’s budget plan are forming an independent party. The rebels said back in March that they could not support what they described as ‘brutal’ cuts in their wards, or introduction of the £40 green bin collection charge in the city.
