On the 20th of July, 2021, the London Borough of Hounslow report CEX563 Hounslow ShopLocal Scheme was submitted to the Hounslow Cabinet for consideration.

The cabinet was asked to agree to the following:
1. To proceed with the Hounslow ShopLocal voucher initiative as outlined in the detail of this report;
2. To create a budget of £2.3m funded by the Additional Restrictions Grant allocation;
3. To allocate a further £100k from the New Burdens grant to cover the costs of administering the initiative.

The £2.3 million budget for the scheme is a financial assistance package from the Government - Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) - (taxpayers money) that is being made available to Local Authorities, which are being urged to transfer those funds to the businesses who are in need of assistance as soon as possible.

Hounslow Cabinet reasons for decision and options considered were that the ShopLocal initiative is intended to support businesses by encouraging residents to purchase goods and services from businesses in the borough. | By shopping local you are supporting our local communities, saving independent businesses and jobs.

Households received a unique individual code via the post towards the end of August and will have until 7 December 2021 to spend the voucher on products or services at a range of businesses including cafes, cinemas, restaurants, health and wellbeing organisations, laundrettes and many more.
