Brazil had 130,000 accidents by venomous animals in 2011 alone

Brazil records, on average, more than 26 thousand cases of snakebite every year. Not every bite leads to poisoning, as there are non-venomous snakes and others that cannot inject their venom into the bite. Still, more than 100 people die each year as a result of this type of accident.
Jararacas are the type that most causes accidents with snakes in Brazil, as they inhabit very different places, from humid regions (such as riverbanks) to savannahs, rural areas and on the banks of large cities. The bite site has pain, swelling, bleeding, and may have purplish spots. Without care, there is a risk of severe bleeding that can lead to death.
