Glasgow's equal pay campaigners highlight their case on International Women's Day

Women council workers fighting for fair equal pay compensation payments highlighted their cause today on International Women's Day.

The trade unionists held a protest in George Square and called on Glasgow City Council to maintain the current arrangements for pay outs.

Lesley Scoffield, UNISON branch equality officer, said:

"We are here today in the best traditions of international women's day to highlight that there is still pay inequality in Glasgow City Council.

We are calling on the council not to dump the deal that was agreed in 2019 and to make further compensation payments now.

If not, then we are heading towards yet another strike led by women in this city".

International Women's Day was initiated by socialists and trade unionists over a 100 years ago to promote and celebrate the struggle for women's political and economic rights.
