महाशिवरात्रि का महापर्व मंगलवार (एक मार्च) को है. भगवान शिव के करोड़ों भक्त महाशिवरात्रि (Mahashivratri) का बेसब्री से इंतजार कर रहे हैं. ऐसा माना जाता है कि जो भगवान शिवजी की चार पहर की पूजा-अर्चना करते हैं, महादेव उनकी सभी मनोकामनाओं को पूरी करता है. इस दिन भगवान शिव जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए भक्तों को दिन व रात में शिवपुराण का पाठ करना चाहिए. इसके अलावा, महाशिवरात्रि के दिन किसी बड़े पात्र में धातु से बने शिवलिंग या मिट्टी से बने शिवलिंग की स्थापना करनी चाहिए ।इस दिन भगवान शिव की कृपा पाने के लिए शिवलिंग पर जल और ऊं नम: शिवाय मंत्र का जप करना शुभ होता है। लेकिन कई बार भूलवश शिवलिंग की पूजा करते समय ऐसी भूल हो जाती है जिसके कारण पूजा सफल नहीं होती है।

It is believed that those who worship Lord Shiva for four hours, Mahadev fulfills all their wishes. To please Lord Shiva on this day, devotees should recite Shiv Puran during the day and night. Apart from this, on the day of Mahashivratri one should establish Shivling made of metal or Shivling made of clay in a big vessel. On this day it is auspicious to chant water and Om Namah Shivaya Mantra on the Shivling to get the blessings of Lord Shiva. But many times, while worshiping Shivling by mistake, such a mistake is made, due to which the worship is not successful.
