Sudan’s military leader lauds intelligence ties with Israel

Sudan's de facto ruler defends intelligence sharing with Israel, claiming that it has helped protect national and regional security.

Army leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan says the exchange of intelligence with Israel has enabled Sudan to dismantle suspected militant groups. Burhan insists that it's legitimate for Sudanese security agencies to have ties with Israel. The top general seized power in a military coup last October that sparked mass protests. More than 70 people died in a heavy-handed crackdown by the junta. Sudan normalized relations with Israel two years ago under a US-brokered deal. Since then, they've forged security and intelligence relations and their officials have met in unannounced trips.
