Tolerance and acceptance of differences, especially religious differences, is a characteristic of Indian society. And over centuries individuals and institutions have contributed in their own special way to keep this legacy alive. One such example comes from Jharkhand, the northeastern state of India. A Muslim man from Dumka, Jharkhand has built a Hindu temple reflecting respect for the religion. Speaking to ANI, Naushad Sheikh on Feb 12 said, “I had a dream in 2019 to establish this temple. Today this temple has been completed. ‘Jalabhishek’ will be held in the temple on February 14. I am paying all the expenses." Instances like these bring to the forefront the enduring spirit of communal harmony prevalent between different communities in India.
