Voting began at 7 am on Thursday in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. The first phase will see voting in the Jat-dominated western UP region and Doab. 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts of UP will go to polls, with as many as 623 candidates in the fray.
