The prime minister has backed down from his widely-criticised claim Sir Keir Starmer failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile.

Boris Johnson insisted his remark was not in reference to the Labour leader's "personal record" as director of public prosecutions (DPP) but of his "responsibility for the organisation as a whole".
