Buddha statue in Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya or Bodhgaya is an important Pilgrimage site associated with the life of Gautama Buddha. This religious place is located in the Gaya district of Bihar, India. Bodh Gaya has been remunerated since 1953 as an international place of pilgrimage. The site of enlightenment have since attracted a large number of tourists even giving permissions to countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Tibet, Bhutan and Japan, establish monasteries and temples within easy walking distance of the Mahabodhi Temple complex.

The main attraction of the site is The Mahabodhi Temple complex which was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. Mahabodhi Temple is a beautiful temple built in the 3rd century by the great Emperor Asoka in lord's honor at the very spot where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. It is an exquisitely built 150 foot high pyramid spire over The Bodhi Tree which is an ancient pipal tree under which the lord sat for meditation. There is also a huge and beautiful idol of the Lord inside this shrine.
