In This video Ananda Vikatan team tracked down the history and life of Kudukuduppaikaaraargal aka Fortune Tellers referred as Kanikkar by the Government.
Kannikar are a tribal community found in the southern parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu states in India. According to 2011 census there are 24,000 Kanikkars, living in several districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
We have given a detailed outline of the struggles faced by the youngsters of the community. This community which slowly changed its habitat from a nomadic life to a permanent settlements still facing issues. The people still want them to be recognised as a tribal community. They want them given a status to fight out their part for Education and Employment for betterment of life.
