The Election Commission (EC) issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party (SP) for violating the Covid-19 guidelines. On January 14, the party organised a 'virtual' event which was addressed by party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Though, nearly hundreds of supporters turned up for the event at the party office in Lucknow. The EC notice said "available reports, prima facie, suggest the party violated the lawful directions of the commission".
