ByteDance CFO Steps Down To Focus On TikTok

TikTok owner and ByteDance’s finance chief will step down to focus on his role as CEO of the short video app. Shou Zi Chew joined ByteDance as CFO in March, sparking speculation the company could be on track for an initial public offering. ByteDance said in April it had no imminent plans to list. Chew then because CEO of short video app TikTok in May. The move is part of a broader reorganization within ByteDance. Six business units have been created, including the Chinese version of TikTok. Other units include the work collaboration division Lark, education business Dali and enterprise technology platform BytePlus. It has been a tough 15 months for ByteDance after it was dubbed a national security threat by former President Donald Trump’s administration. But ByteDance has continued to push forward with new business areas from gaming to fintech, while TikTok hit a billion monthly active users in September.
