Subtropical Storm Wanda Spins in the North Atlantic
  • 2 years ago
Subtropical storm Wanda formed in the North Atlantic Ocean late Saturday night.
It was the twenty-first storm of the very active 2021 Atlantic hurricane season.
For the second time in the past two years, and only for the third time in history, meteorologists have exhausted the list of names used to identify storms in the Atlantic.
The National Hurricane Center said storm Wanda was not a threat and would not be able to reach land.
According to forecasters, it was located about 900 miles west of the Azores, with a maximum wind speed of 50 miles per hour.
The storm was heading west and is expected to make a slow turn of almost 180 degrees before weakening on Tuesday.
The list of storm names was exhausted shortly before the start of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
World leaders from nearly 200 countries will come together to discuss climate change and commitments to reduce global temperatures.
Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere hit record levels last year, despite a temporary decline during the pandemic.
The United Nations has also said that the world has not met its goal of reducing emissions to reduce global warming.
