C/O ArtHouse: Carving Gold Out of Palm Leaves

Through the narrow winding lanes of Odisha’s tiny village of Nayakapatana, only a stone’s throw away from the beach town of Puri, a family has been struggling for decades to not just establish their art, but also to build a community of self-sustained artists. Right next door to Raghurajpur of Pattachitra fame, Nayakapatana has been striving to receive its share of the limelight by carving images on dried palm leaves, known as Pothichitra, under the leadership of one 70-year-old man.
