The Leh engineer who inspired Phunsukh Wangdu, Aamir Khan’s Role In 3 Idiots has built a university in the Himalayan region. He is also known for innovations like the ice stupa. They help irrigation in the desert areas the Himalayas. They are built by hosing water until it freezes into a hill of ice. Thus saving water for times it is hard to come by.


He started The Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh in 1988 with the goal to improve the educational system of Ladakh. They also built an eco-friendly school near Leh, before he had enough money to start the university. He is also known for the innovative ice stupas that help preserve water for summer months.
