आईसीसी टी20 वर्ल्ड कप के पहले दिन ही बड़ा उलटफेर देखने को मिला, हाल फिलहाल के दिनों में जबरजस्त खेल दिखाने वाली और बड़े -बड़े टीमों को धूल चटाने वाली बांग्लादेश की टीम पहले ही मैच मे दोयम दर्जे की टीम मानी जाने वाली स्कॉटलैंड ने हरा दिया, पहले ही मैच से बाकी टीमों को ये समझ में आ गया होगा कि कोई भी टीम किसी भी विरोधी टीम को हल्के में लेने की गलती नहीं कर सकती है। ग्रुप बी के दो मैच 17 अक्टूबर को खेले गए, पहले मैच में पपुआ न्यू गिनी ने ओमान को 10 विकेट से हराया, वहीं दूसरे मैच में बांग्लादेश को स्कॉटलैंड के खिलाफ हार झेलनी पड़ी। स्कॉटलैंड ने बांग्लादेश को छह रनों से हराया। इस मैच के बाद बांग्लादेश के कप्तान महमूदुल्लाह जब प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेन्स में पहुंचे, तो वहां स्कॉटिश फैन्स ने उनकी हार के जख्मों पर नमक छिड़का।
