Council row leads to police call 'threat'

A South Ribble borough councillor has been found to have brought the authority into disrepute over his actions during a planning committee meeting in December 2020.

Conservative Cllr Barrie Yates (seen in the brown jumper and glasses in the top right-hand corner of this footage), indicated that he was going to call the police about whether Labour Cllr James Flannery (initially appearing in the top left-hand corner of the screen) should have declared an interest in an item on the agenda.

The authority's standards committee made the ruling against Cllr Yates and ordered that he undergo training in the council's code of conduct. It also found that Cllr Flannery did not have to declare the type of interest Cllr Yates had alleged.

Also seen in the footage is planning committee chair Cllr Caleb Tomlinson (top left in a blue suit and red tie), Cllr Mary Green (bottom left) and Cllr Will Adams (top left in a dark suit and tie).
