हिंदू धर्म में भगवान श्री गणेश जी का जन्मोत्सव बड़े ही धूम-धाम से मनाया जाता है. धार्मिक ग्रंथों के अनुसार, भगवान गणेश का जन्म भाद्रपद के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी को हुआ था. इस लिए इनके जन्म दिवस पर गणेश चतुर्थी का उत्सव मनाया जाता है. गणेशोत्सव, चतुर्थी से लेकर चतुर्दशी तक चलता है. इस चतुर्दशी को अनंत चतुर्दशी भी कहते हैं. 11 दिनों तक चलने वाले इस पर्व में गणेश भगवान की मूर्ति स्थापित की जाती है और प्रतिदिन उनकी विधि-विधान से पूजा अर्चना की जाती है.गणेश चतुर्थी पर भी खंडित मूर्ति के कुछ नियम हैं जिनको जानना हम सभी के लिए बहुत जरूरी है। महागणपति की प्रतिमा प्राण प्रतिष्ठा से पहले अगर खंडित हो जाए तो नई मूर्ति लाकर उसकी उपासना करें। गणेश चतुर्थी के दूसरे या तीसरे दिन मूर्ति खंडित हो जाए तो नई मूर्ति लाने की जरूरत नहीं है। मूर्ति खंडित हो चुकी है तो उसे अक्षत के साथ जल में प्रवाहित कर दें।

If the idol is broken on the second or third day of Ganesh Chaturthi, there is no need to bring a new idol. If the idol is broken, then float it in water along with Akshat.
