New York and New Jersey declared a state of emergency as record-breaking rains from tropical storm Ida led to flooding and hazardous conditions on the roads, with media reporting at least 18 deaths. Record rainfall, which prompted an unprecedented flash flood emergency warning for New York City, turned streets into rivers and shut down subway services as water cascaded down platforms onto tracks.

In other news, Tollywood actor Rakul Preet Singh appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday after she was summoned as part of a money laundering probe in connection with a high-end drugs racket that was busted in 2017.
