Kerala Reports Over 31,000 Covid-19 Cases After Onam Weekend, Positivity Rate At 19%

Kerala has been witnessing rising Covid-19 cases. The state recorded over 31, 000 cases on August 25, nearly a 30 per cent jump. The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) jumped to 19.03% from 18.04% on August 24. The Kerala government flagged it as an 'Onam spike'. Kerala on August 25 reported 31,445 new cases. The total infections in the state now stand at 38,83,429 & fatalities to 19,972. Veena George, Kerala’s Health Minister had also called for increased vigil over the next four weeks due to Onam. Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary, cautioned other states about the upcoming festival season. V Muraleedharan, Union Minister and BJP leader tweeted, “Alarming COVID-19 situation in Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan has clearly failed to protect people's lives.” Tom Vadakkan, BJP spokesperson said the state government was busy covering up the alleged crisis. India has reported over 3.25 crore cases of Covid-19 so far. More than 4.35 lakh deaths have been recorded in the state. There have been over 3.17 crore recoveries & 3.22 lakh active cases being reported in the country.
