No traces of corona virus have been found in Ganga river. Scientists from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleosciences, Lucknow have made this claim. After two months of research, scientists declared the river Kovid-free. They found the presence of the virus in the Gomti river in September 2020 and on May 21 this year. According to Professor Dnyaneshwar Choubey, Department of Biology at BHU, scientists of both the institutes collected two samples every week from Varanasi city (15 May to 3 July) for seven weeks to investigate possible traces of corona virus in the Ganga. The team did RT-PCR test of all the samples by extracting RNA. Neeraj Rai, a scientist at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleosciences and head of the Kovid lab at the institute, was quoted as saying, "Surprisingly, none of the samples collected from the Ganga showed traces of viral RNA. However, samples collected from the Gomti river showed the presence of viral RNA.

गंगा नदी में कोरोना वायरस के निशान नहीं मिले हैं. बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय, वाराणसी और बीरबल साहनी इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ पल्रियोसाइंसेज, लखनऊ के वैज्ञानिकों ने ये दावा किया है. दो महीने की रिसर्च के बाद वैज्ञानिकों ने नदी को कोविड- फ्री घोषित किया. उन्होंने वायरस की मौजूदगी को गोमती नदी में सितंबर 2020 और इस साल 21 मई को पाया था. बीएचयू में जीव विज्ञान विभाग के प्रोफेसर ज्ञानेश्वर चौबे के मुताबिक, गंगा में कोरोना वायरस के संभावित अंशों की जांच के लिए दोनों संस्थानों के वैज्ञानिकों ने सात सप्ताह तक हर सप्ताह दो सैंपल (15 मई से 3 जुलाई ) वाराणसी शहर से इकट्ठा किया. टीम ने आरएनए निकालकर सभी सैंपल का आरटी-पीसीआर टेस्ट किया. बीरबल साहनी इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ पल्रियोसाइंसेज के वैज्ञानिक और इंस्टीट्यूट में कोविड लैब के प्रमुख नीरज राय के हवाले से कहा गया, "हैरानी की बात है, गंगा से इकट्ठा किसी भी सैंपल में वायरल आरएनए के निशान नहीं दिखे. हालांकि, गोमती नदी से बटोरे गए सैंपल में वायरल आरएनए की मौजूदगी दिखी."
