Indian team's legendary bowler Ashwin created history by taking the second wicket in the second innings of the Southampton Test match against New Zealand. He became the highest wicket-taker in the first ever World Test Championship organized by the ICC. Ashwin secured the first position in terms of taking most wickets in the Test Championship. Playing 14 matches in this tournament, the Indian spinner did this wonders as soon as he took the 71st wicket.

भारतीय टीम के दिग्गज गेंदबाज Ashwin ने न्यूजीलैंड के खिलाफ साउथैम्पटन टेस्ट मैच की दूसरी पारी में दूसरा विकेट हासिल करने के साथ ही इतिहास रचा। आइसीसी द्वारा आयोजित पहले World Test Championship में वह सबसे ज्यादा विकेट लेने वाले गेंदबाज बन गए। World Test Championship में सबसे ज्यादा विकेट लेने के मामले में Ashwin ने पहला स्थान हासिल किया। 14 मैच खेलते हुए इस टूर्नामेंट में भारतीय स्पिनर 71वां विकेट झटकते ही यह कमाल कर दिखाया। ऑस्ट्रेलिया के Pat Cummins के नाम 14 मैच में 70 विकेट थे और वह लिस्ट में सबसे उपर थे। Ashwin ने न्यूजीलैंड के खिलाफ फाइनल में पहले टॉम लेथम को आउट कर कमिंस की बराबरी की और फिर डोवेन कॉनवे का विकेट हासिल कर टॉप पोजिशन हासिल किया
