A new twist has emerged in the brutal attack on an 8-year old girl in Berhampur. While the investigation is still underway, the police said that the assailant slit the throat of the girl after attempting to rape her.
On Thursday (January 28) the girl was rescued from a locked room with her throat slit at Sorala village. Locals, who saved the girl, roughed up one of the assailants on the spot. The assailant was later handed over to the police for investigation. The girl is presently battling for her life at the SCB Medical College in Cuttack.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra said that circumstantial evidence suggests that the assailant had made an attempt to rape the girl. It is believed that when the girl resisted, her throat was slit with an intention to silence her.
