Rourkela Steel Plant Gas Leak: 2 DGMs Suspended By CEO | OTV News

Two Deputy General Managers (DGMs) of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been suspended by the plant CEO in connection with the gas leak mishap that claimed four lives.
The suspended officials are N Das, the DGM of Coal Chemical Department and G Barik, the DGM of Energy Management Department. Action has been taken after the preliminary investigation, in which the two officials were found guilty of dereliction of duty.
The plant authorities have also announced jobs to one family member of each deceased, who were contractual employees. The authorities have also directed the third party vendor who had employed the contractual employees in the plant to provide compensation of Rs 2.5 Lakh to the bereaved families.
Earlier this morning, around 15 employees were on duty when the incident took place. Ten of them fell ill following the leakage of toxic gas after which they were admitted to the dispensary on the plant premises.
Later, four of them were shifted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) after their condition deteriorated. While two were declared brought dead, two more succumbed during treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
