Another Maoist attack in Malkangiri. Maoists allegedly axed a road contractor named Sukumar Mondal to death at Golia area under Mathili police limits of Malkangiri district today. The Maoists also set a car and road construction machines on fire.
As per sources, 15-20 Maoists first thrashed Mondal before hacking him with an axe. The Red rebels also set fire to three vehicles including a tractor and a SUV belonging to Mondal. After this disturbing act by the Maoists, a combing operation has been launched in the area by police.
The place where the incident occurred is close to the Chhattisgarh border. It is suspected that the Maoists involved are from Darba Division in Chhattisgarh area. As per sources Mondal, who was a licensed contractor, had taken the contract for building a road. The ultras were against the road as it would have made movement of vehicles easier helping security personnel in carrying out anti-Naxal operations. The police currently are investigating the case.
