‘Populist Economic Policies Must Go, Addressing Labour Income Urgent’: Former CEA, Nitin Desai

In this episode of The Wire Business Report, Mitali Mukherjee is in conversation with Nitin Desai, a former economic advisor to the Government of India and a former member of the Planning Commission. In this detailed conversation on the state of India's economy, Desai points out that the BJP has been neglecting the rural sector for far too long. He says that the focus of BJP's economic policies must shift from cutting corporate taxes to increasing rural wages, distribution and demand instead. On the dismal graduate unemployment figures, Desai says that India has had, for far too long, a gap between education for the classes and for the masses. The gap between education for the poorest and the richest must be reduced, he says.
