Italy National Anthem (Instrumental) Il Canto degli Italiani
  • 3 years ago
"Il Canto degli Italiani" ("The Song of the Italians") is the national anthem of Italy. It was written by Goffredo Mameli set to music by Michele Novaro in 1847. The song is best known among Italians as the Inno di Mameli ("Mameli's Hymn"), after the author of the lyrics, or Fratelli d'Italia ("Brothers of Italy"), from its opening line.
The song was very popular during the unification of Italy and in the following decades, although after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy (1861) the Marcia Reale (Royal March) was chosen as the anthem of the Kingdom of Italy.
After the Second World War, Italy became a republic, and Il Canto degli Italiani was chosen, in 1946, as a provisional national anthem. It finally gained official status in 2017.

(English Lyrics / Translation)
Brothers of Italy,
Italy has woken,
Bound Scipio's helmet
Upon her head.
Where is Victory?
Let her bow down,
For God created her
Slave of Rome.

Refrain:
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called.
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called! Yes!
