The 5 Basic Survival Skills
All survival techniques have one thing in common... Which is the most important of them all: DON'T PANIC!
Use your wits and train your mind and body for who knows when the time shall come.
Skill 5: Learn Basic Medical Skills.
Analyze your needs before the trip! As the saying goes: 'Prevention is better than cure.'
Skill 4:Food Aquisition.
The average male and female need 2500 and 2000 calories a day to sustain weight.
And to understand what foods you need, you must understand what nutrients you must intake: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Skill 3: Signaling To Rescuers.
Fire, flashing light, bright color markers, flags, mirrors, whistles can help to alert any potential rescuers. Life-Saving Fact: the international emergency signal for distress is three continuous of any of the above.
Skill 2: Building a Shelter from Scratch.
The human body is not designed to extended exposure to intense heat, freezing temperatures, driving sleet and torrential rain.
Skill 1: Finding and Purifying Water.
Contrary to beliefs never drink urine!
If possible boil all water for at least 10min and an extra minute for every 1000 feet above sea level.
You can strain water through a handkerchief to remove large particles and don't forget zip bags to collect the purified water.
