New World Record! Legendary free-diver sets new diving record in the world deepest lake

Russian free-diver Alexey Molchanov reached 80 metres in the lake Baikal setting a new Guinness World Record on Wednesday.

It took the 34-year-old 2 minutes and 53 seconds to dive down the world's deepest lake.

Igor Kobzev, governor of the Siberian region of Irkutsk where part of Lake Baikal is located, said on Instagram that the water was a chilly 3°C.

Molchanov, a 14-time world champion freediver, claims to now hold 20 world records.
