Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that 2.8 million people may risk losing their jobs in the event of a total lockdown, such as the one during the first MCO which was imposed in March last year.

He said 2.5 million people could lose their income and the B40 group could lose their income, which is estimated to cost RM6.45 billion, with an average of RM2,400 for each family in a month.

He said the government will scrutinise the possible consequences thoroughly before deciding the next course of action after the movement control order (MCO) expires on Feb 4.
