US Capitol riot: Donald Trump concedes presidential election amid riot backlash
  • 3 years ago
U.S. President Donald Trump conceded the election in a video posted to Twitter that condemned the actions of a pro-Trump mob who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

Supporters had attended a rally earlier in the day in which the president told his supporters to march on the Capitol as legislators were certifying president-elect Joe Biden’s election victory. The ensuing chaos forced the proceedings to be halted for several hours.

“You do not represent our country,” Trump told the rioters in the video posted to Twitter a day after the events in Washington, D.C.

Trump conceded the election for the first time since being defeated by Biden in an election in early November. Trump addressed Americans, telling them “serving as your president has been the honour of my lifetime.”
