Did Trump Incite the Jan 6 Capitol Attack?
Former President Donald Trump was indicted on four charges, including conspiring to defraud the U.S. and obstructing an official proceeding, in an unprecedented criminal case that accuses him of trying to undermine the 2020 election results and inciting the January 6 Capitol attack. The indictment outlines detailed allegations against Trump, accusing him of persistently promoting baseless election fraud claims even after being informed of their lack of merit. It further claims that he pressured officials in battleground states to overturn the election. When these efforts failed, he allegedly urged the Justice Department to claim election fraud falsely and encouraged his supporters to "fight like hell" during the January 6 Capitol attack. While over 1,000 individuals have been charged with the January 6 Capitol attack, Trump is among the first to face federal charges without directly participating in the riot.
