South Korea recorded 1-thousand-50 new coronavirus cases and 20 additional deaths on Wednesday.
Fast spread of the virus has resulted in an average of more than one-thousand new cases per day for the last week.
The recent uptick has been attributed to cluster infections at hospitals and facilities for the elderly... as well as the outbreak at a detention center in Seoul... where nearly 8-hundred cases have been reported so far.
The capital area continues to see the most cases.... recording an average of more than 3-hundred cases per day for the last week.
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun today highlighted the need to be thoroughly prepared as another spike in cases is possible due to year-end gatherings.
The government is currently mulling whether to implement the toughest social distancing measures for the capital region before the extended deadline of January 3rd.
