Twitch confirms its market domination after the shutdown of Mixer
  • 3 years ago
Video game streaming has been booming in the last few years.
In this area, Twitch (Amazon) has established itself as the market leader.
And Mixer's death was a blessing for it!
Mixer (Microsoft) finally didn't succeed in convincing the streamers, who were much too devoted to Twitch.
When it ceased operations in June 2020, Mixer joined forces with Facebook Gaming to migrate accounts.
But if Mark Zuckerberg thought he was going to get many of the streamers back, former Mixer users turned to Twitch instead.
That's the case of Tyler Blevins, better known under the nickname Ninja, and one of the most followed streamers in the world.
He joined Mixer after leaving Amazon's platform in 2019.
After Mixer ceased, he finally decided to come back to Twitch.
In the third quarter of 2020, Twitch accounted for 91.1% of the video game streaming market (7.46 billion hours of streaming between July and September) an increase of 14.5% compared to the previous trimester.
"This very strong increase can be attributed to the end of Mixer, which had captured 14.2% of all live content in the last trimester." Report published by Steamlabs & Steam Hatchet.
The main competitors of Twitch? YouTube Gaming and Facebook Gaming hold respectively 5.5% and 3.4% of the remaining shares.
