Joe Biden has now been called as President-elect of the United States.
He delivered his speech from the campaign's headquarter in Delaware on Saturday night, local time.
He also had a long history with South Korea for several decades.
Choi Won-jong with the details.
U.S. President-elect Joe Biden delivered his celebratory message,... focusing on healing and unity.
"I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify, who doesn't see red states and blue states only sees the United States. And work with all my heart, with the confidence of the whole people to win the confidence of all of you, and for that is what America I believe is about."
After multiple media outlets projected his victory in the 2020 Presidential Election, Biden said he hoped to rebuild the nation.
"The Bible tells us, “to everything there is a season: a time to build, a time to reap, and a time to sow and a time to heal.” This is the time to heal in America."
Biden has been close to former South Korean Presidents for decades.
One of them was late former President Kim Dae-jung.
Biden's relationship to Kim goes back to the 1980s when Biden was a U.S. senator.
Kim and Biden shared a close bond over their common interest about South Korea's so-called 'Sunshine Policy' which encouraged interaction with North Korea along with economic assistance for the regime.
Nearly three decades later, in 2001, Biden visited South Korea as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and reunited with his old friend.
"Good to see you again, Good to see you again. Thanks for seeing me."
Biden also sent condolences when Kim passed away in 2009.
Then, as U.S. Vice President, Biden continued to discuss the tensions on the peninsula by visiting the War Memorial of Korea and the Demilitarized Zone.
Given Biden's long history with South Korea, as U.S. President-elect, the question remains on what his administration will bring to the table for relations between the U.S. and South Korea.
