Kamala Harris made history in the 2020 U.S. presidential election,... becoming the first woman and first woman of color to become Vice-President-elect of the United States.
Hong Yoo reports.
Kamala Harris started her political career in 2017 as a U.S. senator from California.
It was just three years later that she broke through the thickest glass ceiling, becoming the first woman, first Black and Asian American to win the second highest office in the land.
It was her presidential campaign in January 2019 that helped her build up her profile.
"I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States."
Earlier this year, Harris had sharply criticized Biden regarding his past work with segregationist Senators and his past opposition to busing.
However, despite those criticisms, Biden chose her as his running mate for the 2020 election.
Before starting her political career, Harris had been a prosecutor and went on to become the first Black woman attorney general of California.
As she accepted the role of Vice-President-elect on Saturday, she delivered a message that gender will not impede the ability of girls and women to achieve their dreams.
"But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.“
Having brought various genders and races together during the election, Harris is seen by many pundits in the U.S. as a possible candidate for the presidency in the years to come.
