Ranjan Gogoi, Former Chief Justice Of India Takes Oath As Rajya Sabha Member Amid Uproar

Ranjan Gogoi, India’s 46th Chief Justice was sworn in as a Member of the Upper House of Parliament after President Ram Nath Kovind nominated his name on March 16. His nomination has been criticised by various quarters – Gogoi’s peers as well as political leaders who said the appointment sets a bad precedent for the independence of judiciary in the country. Gogoi was sworn in amid chants of “shame” and a walkout in the Rajya Sabha.
