Arguably India’s best captain in the longest format of the game, Ajit Wadekar, was born on this day (April 1) in 1941. Wadekar represented Bombay in the domestic circuit and made his first-class debut in 1958 before making his foray into international cricket in 1966. Wadekar represented India in 37 Test matches, scoring 2,113 runs and also played for the Men in Blue in two ODIs. He had an impeccable record in FC cricket, scoring over 15,000 runs in 237 matches with an average of over 47.
