People across major cities in Maharashtra were left shocked by this month's exorbitant electricity bills. A large number of people across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai complained of receiving inflated bills. Several people took to Twitter to express their concern and shock. Mumbaikars have accused the power companies of issuing inflated invoices. The claim has been dismissed by private & state-run electricity companies. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray took stock of the rising number of complaints. The Chief Minister's Office on June 30 said it has directed power companies to transparently resolve all complaints. Bollywood celebs also took to social media to express shock over the inflated electricity bills. Actor Taapsee Pannu shared an image of her power bill, which was Rs 36,000. Pulkit also tweeted about his Rs 30,000 bill. According to the suppliers, the bills sent over last three months were lower than average because their staff could not read the meters during the lockdown in Mumbai. But now, companies said, their employees have started the process of reading meters and the bills are being adjusted to reflect true consumption. Adani Electricity, Mumbai took to Twitter to inform people how the bill was calculated. Tata Power and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited released statements.
