A nearly 30-year-old Japanese drug is set to hit Indian markets for emergency, prescription-based use by mild to moderate coronavirus patients. Favipiravir is being launched by the Mumbai-based Glenmark at Rs 103/tablet, and is expected to be available with chemists by the end of this month.However, the drug comes with side-effects such as possible birth defects and liver damage. At a press meet Saturday, Glenmark said the drug can be used in Covid-19 patients with comorbid conditions such as diabetes and heart disease
