The U.S. State Department says it will "positively consider" establishing a new two-way dialogue channel with South Korea.
The department told Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency Monday that Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun thought the channel was a good idea after it was suggested last week by Seoul's Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun who was visiting him in Washington.
Choi announced the launch of the director-level consultative body the so-called "Alliance Dialogue" after those talks.
Some raised doubts about that announcement as it was not included in the State Department's readout the next day.
Choi says the channel will be launched in October.
