S. Korea elected to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage committee

South Korea has been elected to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee for the third time.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the country was in a tight race with India in the Asia-Pacific group to become part of the 24-member committee.
Seoul will now be involved in deciding which intangible cultural heritages are added to the Heritage List as well as defining the use of funds.
South Korea currently has twenty intangible cultural heritages listed by UNESCO.
Meanwhile, the country's Cultural Heritage Administration aims to list the Gaya Tumuli as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The grave mounds are crucial archaeological evidence of the Gaya Kingdom culture from one-thousand-five-hundred years ago.
