S. Korea's liquor tax revenues rise to new high on increased consumption

Last year, South Korea's revenues from alcohol taxes amounted to almost 3 billion U.S. dollars, the highest figure on record.
There were no major changes in the tax rate, so Koreans were apparently drinking more.
According to the National Assembly Budget office, alcohol tax revenues rose on year by about 170 million U.S. dollars.
Revenues from fuel taxes, meanwhile, fell last year by about 4-point-6 percent... due in part to a tax cut to help people save on their everyday expenses.
Tax revenues from cigarettes... fell to about 2-point-9 billion dollars,... corresponding to a decline in cigarette sales of 2-point-4 percent.
