England and West Indies met in a six-Test series for the first time and the home side did well to achieve a 2-2 draw as four West Indies bowlers - Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Ian Bishop and Kenny Benjamin each took over 20 wickets. Brian lara was the leading run getter in the series he smashed 765 runs in 10 innings and was chosen as player of the series. Brian lara played one of the best innings of his test career in oval as he scored brilliant 179 run to save the match.

ब्रायन लारा, टेस्ट क्रिकेट इतिहास के महान बल्लेबाज. ब्रायन लारा ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट में अनेकों रिकॉर्ड अपने नाम किये हैं. दो तिहरा शतक लगाने वाले वो दुनिया के दूसरे बल्लेबाज बने थे. हालाँकि, ये कारनामा करने वाले बल्लेबाजों की संख्या अब चार की हो गयी है. पर टेस्ट क्रिकेट में इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ उन्होंने 400 रनों का आंकड़ा पार किया था. जो अब भी किसी बल्लेबाज के लिए इस रिकॉर्ड को तोड़ पाना आसान नहीं है. ब्रायन लारा ने वैसे तो कई अहम पारियां खेली है. पर साल 1995 में ओवल के मैदान पर खेली गयी उनकी वो पारी जबरदस्त थी. ब्रायन लारा के करियर में वो पारी मील का पत्थर साबित हुई. 26 अगस्त को ओवल में ब्रायन लारा का बल्ला खूब चला था. और उन्होंने 179 रनों की पारी खेली थी.
