탈진, 피로, 코로나 감염까지...최전선 의료진도 쓰러진다

Healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus on the frontline are battling triple disasters - fatigue from the prolonged pandemic, risk of infection and extreme heat.
Yoon Jungmin has more on the frontline medical workers braving the hot, humid summer weather in heavy protective suits.
Frontline medical workers are not just fighting COVID-19, but against the heat and fatigue too.
Medical staff are required to wear heavy protective gear and work in a hermetically-sealed environment which can cause them to faint due to the hot summer weather.
Although some trainee doctors have agreed to resume practice despite the recent strikes,...medical facilities are suffering from a lack of manpower amid the recent resurgence of new coronavirus infections in South Korea.
Doctors and nurses fighting against COVID-19 are especially at risk as they could be exposed to the virus while treating patients.
At Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do Province,... some 10 medical workers and members of their families were confirmed to have the virus so far.
"If medical staff get infected, patients cannot go to these medical institutions. So it's very dangerous and we must prevent infections at those facilities."
The KCDC said, that as of last Friday, one-hundred-37 medical workers have tested positive for COVID-19.
Fourteen of them were confirmed either while working at COVID-19 test centers or while treating coronavirus patients.
The other one-hundred-23 workers were found to have been infected due to cluster infections at hospitals or other medical facilities.
