Tourists and locals flock to a unique man-made surfing spot in the Eisbach river, central Munich.

A crowd watches on as surfers take turns riding the 1-metre-high wave created by water rapidly flowing through a bridge.

Authorities wished to remove the man-made wave due to safety concerns created by the strong current, but a group of surfers and locals campaigned against the move and surfing in the Eisbach became officially permitted in 2010.

This footage was filmed on August 12.
