코로나19 여파에 근로•사업•재산소득 모두 감소... 정부 지원에 이전소득 80% 증가

Data shows around a five-percent drop in household employment income in the second quarter of this year in South Korea due to the coronavirus outbreak.
That, however, was cushioned by a rise in transfer income financial support the government provided to the public.
Oh Jung-hee tells us more.
As the novel coronavirus outbreak dealt a significant blow to the South Korean economy,... earned income, business income, and property income for the second quarter of this year all saw declines.
This is the first such case of a 'triple drop' since the government started compiling data in 2003.
On Thursday, South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance and Statistics Korea released the results of their Q2 household survey.
It showed that earned income in the April to June period recorded a monthly average of around two-thousand-seven-hundred U.S. dollars more than a five-percent drop compared to the same period last year.
Business income was down by over four-percent,... and property income plunged by almost 12-percent.
However, the South Korean government explained that overall income itself is on an upward trend for the second quarter, thanks to an overwhelming rise in what's called 'transfer income'.
Transfer income, which refers to cash, goods or services received from the government or other organizations without participating in money-making activities, spiked by nearly 81-percent.
The government cited the emergency aid given to the public, incentives to create jobs, and the distribution of coupons to encourage domestic consumption.
Spending on food items, non-alcoholic beverages, household goods and transportation increased... but expenditure on entertainment, education, and accommodation dropped.
This... as people preferred to stay home amid the outbreak.
