President Trump has revealed the U.S. intends to restore UN sanctions against Iran.
He made the remarks during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday, local time.
The comments come as the UN Security Council rejected a U.S. resolution last Friday to indefinitely extend the arms embargo on Iran.
As a result, President Trump says the U.S. is now pushing forward with "snapback" sanctions.
"Snapback" refers to the restoration of sanctions against Iranian firms and industries if Tehran continues to enrich nuclear fuel beyond the limits of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
A debate is likely to ensue within the Security Council on whether the U.S. has the right to re-impose sanctions when it withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018.
